Topics to be covered:
1) Music Around the World
2) Fundamentals
3) The Art of Listening
4) The Middle Ages: 400-1400
5) The Renaissance: 1400-1600
6) The Baroque Era: 1600-1750
7) The Classic Era: 1750-1800
8) Beethoven
9) The Nineteenth Century
10) The Twentieth Century I: The Classical Scene
11) The Twentieth Century II: Jazz, an American Original
12) The Twentieth Century III: Popular Music
Prerequisites:
None
Grading Policy:
This class will be scored on a total points system.
The Students will receive one 100-point grade on a test covering each of the topics listed above.
The students will receive one 100-point grade for a project where they will present to the class their favorite piece of popular music. They will be expected to include a short biography of the composers and performers as well as explaining it’s significance in it’s genre and to them personally.
The students will have a written comprehensive final, which will count a percentage of the semester grade as per school board policy.
